If you are in search of a few fantastic days out around the South West this summer, I have compiled a list of fantastic day trips near me which I really want to share with you. Whether your children love nature or they are budding historians or farmers, there is lots for them to do. I hope you have a fantastic summer!
1. Adventure Wonderland in Christchurch, Dorset
Little thrill seekers are going to love Adventure Wonderland. This venue is dedicated to children between the ages of 3 and 10, with an exciting theme park packed with rides that are suitable for younger children. Some of these include the “Jabberwocky” helta-skelter slide, Flying Elephants, a Runaway Train, Yoyo swings, the Ghostly Galleon and so much more. 2. Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle, Cornwall
This a fascinating museum that houses a big collection of Witchcraft regalia and artefacts, and relays the stories and traditions of the history and magic of witchcraft. There is also an on-site café where you can stop for yummy drinks and meals.
3. Eden Project in Par, Cornwall
These are two massive geodesic conservatories, situated inside a 50-metre deep crater. This is the home to the Warm Temperate Biome and the Humid tropics Biome. Set inside the stunning location of Par, this an attraction you do not want to miss for children who love conservation and gardens. Here your kids can enjoy the biggest rainforest (in captivity), beautiful exhibitions, plants and more. Come and enjoy the Dinosaur Uprising: Land, Sea, and Air and find all the dinosaurs hiding in the Eden Project. You can also collect stamps for every dinosaur, meet one of the dino experts and even participate in a “dig”.
4. Longleat Safari Park in Warminster, Wiltshire
Here you can explore a few of the fantastic attractions that Longleat has to offer which include the Safari Drive Adventure, Jungle Kingdom, Adventure Park Longleat House, Penguin Bay, and lots more. Here your kids can meet mischievous monkeys, majestic lions, chasing cheetahs, and a roaming rhino. The drive-through safari also offers the opportunity to feed the deer.
This outstanding park covers 19 acres and includes climb-on sculptures, state-of-the-art exhibitions, and beautiful gardens. There are also arts-and-crafts activities for your little ones to enjoy. This park also includes the Totem circle which is used for performances throughout the year, while the kids will really enjoy the Adventure Playground which includes exciting funnel slides along with plenty of climbing opportunities.
5. Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park in Poole, Dorset
Children who love farm animals will really enjoy Farmer Palmer’s. There are many outdoor and indoor play areas along with bumpy tractor-trailer rides and lots of cute and cuddly animals. Your active ones can get rid of some of their energy on the bouncy-castles or get lost inside the Maize Maze which is open from July to October. You can also enjoy a light stroll on the stunning woodland walk to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
6. Clip ‘n’ Climb in Exeter, Devon
If your little ones are craving an adventure, this venue offers an exciting Jungle Gym, a way to reach new heights with the Skyscraper, a Speed Climbing Challenge or light up boards with the Checkerplate. These activities are fantastic for building confidence along with team-building skills.
7. Gloucester Ski And Snowboard Centre in Gloucester, Gloucestershire
Children that enjoy adventure will really enjoy this sports centre. It is home to a large 230-metre main slope along with the nursery slope dedicated to lessons. Other amenities include lifts, a Snowflex fun park, and the Big Airbag to practice freestyle manoeuvres.
8. Winchester Science Centre in Winchester, Hampshire
For those budding scientists, this science centre is a great place to explore along with 100 hands-on-science exhibits to discover. There is also a planetarium which runs daily shows, where you can get sucked inside a Black Hole and travel throughout the Solar System.
